Inside The Mind… Kayla Bliss

I wanted to close out the night with a certain interview for you good Decepticons. Kayla Bliss is a phenomenal, phenomenal singer and artist. I’ve listened to her mixtape Face The Music numerous times and it has made me think about a lot of stuff in my life. Her voice carries throughout the room and her presence is electric. She’s definitely on my favorite artists lists right now. So, check out her mixtape and check out the interview under the jump. I’m sure you will enjoy what she has to say.

1. Please state your name and musical occupation.
My Name is Kayla Bliss and I am a singer/songwriter/producer

2. How did you find out about myself and www.hailmegatron.net?
You guys found me actually and showed me love, so I have to show it back

3. When did you start music and why did you start doing music?
I started singing when I was 4 years old, and honestly music chose me. I really had no say in the matter.

4. Who is your biggest influence, musically, and how did this influence shape the way you make music today.
My biggest musical influence is Brandy. I think that her vocal technique is amazing and she inspires me to do things that no other artist will do…

5. If you had to describe your musical style, how would you describe it?
I think I am a blend of soul, r&b and reggae

6. If you could sit in a studio session of one artist, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to sit in a session with Etta James… she was such a troubled soul, I would love to witness her releasing that pain.

7. Are you currently working on any projects?
I am working on an album right now.

8. Would you like to do any features with any other artists?
I really wanna work with Unique. Hes a friend of mine, so hopefully we can make that happen soon

9. What is your opinion on the current state of mainstream hip hop?
I think that hip hop is losing its ability to inspire, but i believe that there are artists working to change that and i respect those artists

10. What is your opinion on the current state of underground/independent hip hop?
I think that the internet has been a wonderful tool in exposing underground hip hop, and slowly bt surely its giving the independent scene the shine it deserves

11. How has social networking sites (Twitter/Myspace/Facebook) changed how your music gets to different people?
Ive definetly been able to connect with people that ive touched with my music and ive been able to distribute free music on an incredible scale. My mixtape did 1000 downloads in the first day and without twitter that would have been impossible

12. What is your favorite track that you have ever recorded.
My favorite track that Ive ever recorded is a song called SandStorm its on my mixtape Face The Music Vol 1. It was a very emotional time for me, and when people heard it and were like “oh man, im going thru the same thing” it made me feel a little less crazy

13. Everyone is critical of their own music; if you could change one thing about your music, what would you change and why?
I wish that I had a more powerful voice. But I am thankful for my gift, and I know that i have a soft spoken singing voice so that my lyrics can shine.

14. Random question: Do you consider yourself an Autobot or a Decepticon?
I’m definitely a decepticon. Im against the grain, Im a bad girl its not a secret. I fight for what i believe in and i dont follow the rulels when i do it, but i make my statement wether or not anyone likes it.

15. Do you have any last words/shoutouts you’d like to say?
I wanna thank u for giving me this opportunity, and I want to invite everyone to download my mixtape. Thank you everyone for the love and support, and look out for me real soon im gonna be makin waves in this business.
